Back-of-Book Information

Back-of-book/Back of the Book (BoB) are stamps which are listed the Scott "Specialized Catalogue of the United States" starting on page 377 of the 1204 page volume.

We offer a fair number of the "species" — both 'alive' and 'extinct' listed in the Scott catalogue.

Semi-Postals (B)		These Back-of-Book (BoB) issues are a relatively new item to American stamp collectors. The program was created in 1997, when Congress directed the USPS to provide a stamp to benefit Breast-Cancer Research. The stamp (B5) was reissued in 2014. Since then, three other issues have been put on sale — the second issue was to benefit the families of emergency workers killed or disabled in the 9-11-2001 event and has been withdrwn from sales on 31 December 2004. The third stamp of the series "Stop Family Violence" and has been withdrawn from sales on 31 December 2006. The fourth stamp, supports the "Save Vanishing Species" project and will remain on sale through 2018.



General Vending Booklets (BK)		This group has been discontinued in 2008 by the USPS after over a hundred years of issuances. We offer Vending Booklet (BK) from BK80-BK305.



Air Post Vending Booklets (BKC)		Another group that has been phased out (1973) were the Air Post Vending Booklets. We offer Scott BKC1-BKC23 issues in this series.



Air Post (C)		Fifteen years after the first powered flight, the Post Office was tasked with standardizing "air mail" practices. As a result, we have a very interesting series of stamps depicting everything from aircraft, pioneers in flight, and various historical events. The "US Air Mail" stamps were discontinued in 1993, but the "C" suffix continues on as "International Rate" with the current series that started in 1999 that depicts American natural wonders. We offer the complete series that started in 1918 (C1 - C150).



Air Post Special Delivery (CE)		This depression era series of two stamps was issued to prepay air mail special delivery fee with a single stamp. The central design was the Great Seal of the United States and are rumored to have been designed by President Franklin Roosevelt.

Special Delivery (E)		The "Special Delivery" service was officially ended in 2001 after 115 years of operation. These stamps were used to pay the additional service fees for letters and packages that required immediate delivery. We offer this series from starting with Scott E17 to thier final issue - Scott E23.



Registration (F)		This one series stamp was issued in 1911 to pre-pay a letters registration fee (10c) and was retired in 1913 as unneeded.



Certified Mail (FA)		This one series stamp was first issued in 1955 for proof of delivery of first-class mail for which no indemnity value is claimed. This stamp was deemed unnecessary, in 1971, shortly after the formation of the USPS.



Postage Due (J)		Postage Due Stamps owe their existence (1879) to the infidelity of local postmasters not reporting, but collecting unpaid postage. This series of stamps were discontinued in 1985 as automation kept underpaid items from entering the mail stream. We offer this series from Scott J69 - to J104.

Official (O)		Official stamps were first used in 1873 to eliminate fraud in the misuse of the 'franking' privilege by government departments. These stamps were issued by department until 1911 then discontinued with the introduction of "penalty mail". Official stamps were reintroduced in 1983 on a government wide basis. We offer the complete modern issue (Scott O127 - O163).



Postal Insurance Vending Booklets (QI)		The Postal Insurance series consisted of five issues — QI1-QI5. ‭ These Vending Booklets of one stamp each were issued to pay insurance on parcels for loss or damage. The booklet also contained the instructions for use and a receipt form for use if there is a claim.

Modern Varieties (Varieties) Information
