Discontinuance of Pottage Due Stamps — Effective immediately, postage due stamps will no longer be used. Procedures are changed to eliminate the use of postage due stamps on postage due mail. Regular postage stamps must now be used for short paid mail. Existing stock on hand should be handled in accordance with subchapter 550 of Handbook F-l, Financial Handbook for Post Offices. Handbook F-l    PB21587 — 1986 October 02

Note: ‭The last postage due stamps were printed in early November, 1985. With the advent of postage meters, the scrapping of the last Cottrell press in November 1985 (the last press capable of printing the current postage due stamps as designed), and finally new regulations requiring full prepayment of postage in all cases, postage due stamps became anachronistic, and their use ceased.
