Stamp Vending Booklets
first appeared in the United States in 1900 and
have appeared to been discontinued in 2007 with
Scott BK306.
Air Post Booklets were issued from 1928 - 1973
(BKC1 - BKC23) and a short lived Postal
Insurance series (1965 - 1981/QI1 - QI5) were
also issued.
The demise of this medium is the result of many
post offices now have automated postal centers
that can vend the correct postage as well as
other postal products. These machines even
accept credit or debit cards.
Currently the U.S. Postal Service plans to
remove all vending machines by 2010 due to
declining usage as customers have switched to
purchasing stamps online, at ATMs and local
stores.
